Job Description:
Responsible for planning and executing on Nassau strategic
projects including company acquisitions and large-scale
transformational projects critical to the strategic and financial
goals of the company. Works actively with strategic vendors and
across company departments and functional areas to drive
coordination, execution and achieve stated benefits. Responsible
for overseeing program work that consists of multiple inter-related
projects run by project delivery teams consisting of project
management, business leads, business analysis and testing
resources, technology resources and external vendor leads and
staff. This role is a highly visible, serving as the point of
contact for internal and external constituencies. The role will
handle confidential and sensitive information and serve as a
liaison to multiple resources assigned to the program and projects.
The AVP, Strategic Projects must work well within an
entrepreneurial environment that is fast paced and
results-driven.Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- In close collaboration with program leadership, drive and
deliver on the vision for execution, maintaining alignment with the
strategic and financial objectives of the company
- Manage all aspects of strategic project execution, project
reporting and tracking of project health
- Identify issues and actively drive solutions and course
corrections throughout project lifecycle
- Create detailed resource model and ensure appropriate roles,
knowledge and skills on teams to deliver on program objectives;
work closely with department resource managers and project managers
to manage priorities, logistical issues and negotiate
conflicts
- Partner with and provide high motivation to project teams to
execute and deliver
- Work with extreme accountability and ownership of deadlines and
issues
- Understand contractual terms and ensure vendor deliverables and
external spend commitments are on track
- Support project budget and financial tracking; manage change
controls at program level
- Mentor, guide and train project managers, business analysts and
others as needed on project standards, processes, documentation and
controls
- Ensure projects are compliant with corporate policies,
including legal, risk and audit processes and procedures
- Effectively manage and influence diverse, senior level
resources as well as technical, business, cross-departmental and
corporate resources to execute and produce results.
- Create new methodologies and innovative solutions to
unprecedented business problems working collaboratively with
others
- Maintain appropriate communications, coordination, and teamwork
across the various business and corporate departments, to ensure
attainment of the business goals
- Ensure clarity of direction and motivation to team through
ongoing communication of goals and objectives of program
deliverables and business priorities
- Manage expectations of key stakeholders through effective,
continuous communication of program status and results
- Perform other duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experienced project professional with at least 10 years of
solid industry experience and a significant track record in
managing large-scale initiatives
- Four year college degree or equivalent work experience; Masters
degree/Advanced education a plus
- Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) or
equivalent experience required
- In-depth knowledge of the insurance business and business
processes
- Understands interrelation of corporate and business areas
- Demonstrated ability to manage and influence staff and senior
management at all levels
- Astute at creating structure and driving execution
- Superior communication skills and ability to communicate to
diverse audiences
- Energetic, self-assured, self-motivated, enthusiastic and
achievement-oriented
- Capable of managing a number of diverse projects and
coordinating the activities of others in a performance-oriented
culture
- Solid ability to create a vision, take a broader term
perspective by clarifying long-term vision, creating plans, and

- Solid ability to marshal, motivate, influence and manage
resources company-wide without direct reporting control - at all
levels of organization including senior management
- Solid strategic thinker with ability to implement tactically
with particular focus on translating objectives to meaningful
metrics
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Strong sense and knowledge regarding individual and
organizational dynamics; and the skill to quickly identify and
address issues in order to accomplish objectives
- Ability to demonstrate good judgment, manage confidential data
and perform duties with integrity.
- Results-driven, resilient in face of obstacles and variety of
personalities and styles
- Experienced in life, annuity products/services and
distribution
- Excellent facilitation skills and persuasive manner
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and
Excel
