knowledge.Job DescriptionAs the Principal Scientist, reporting to
the Pathway Head, Rare DDU, you will contribute to the discovery of
novel therapeutics within the Rare Diseases Drug Discovery Unit (RD
DDU), independently designing pre-clinical scientific research
projects. With a focus on rare hematological disorders
(non-oncology), this scientist will also be a senior scientific
consultant on multiple programs, and lead matrixed teams that will
drive our vision to discover transformative

- Design and direct research strategy and activities to meet
program goals; provide leadership, timelines and contingency
plans
- Establish project direction integrating science, essential
technical knowledge, and program goals
- Work with other departments, being the scientific authority
within discipline
- Be a senior company / project representative at external
conferences, or business meetings
- Manage workload and expectations
- Identify project goals, activities and constraints and propose
mitigation plans
- Communicate project status, risks and changes to plan to
leadership team
- Guide a small team of internal scientists and help build their
scientific and career development goals
- Contribute to the preparation/editing/review of documents for
regulatory submission
- Be an essential liaison with external collaborators and team
members and help guide research strategy in the focused therapeutic
areaEDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: -
- PhD degree in a scientific discipline with 6+ years experience
,or MS with 12+ years experience, or BS with 14+ years experience
in a biopharmaceutical R&D, health-related consulting company,
or academic role focusing on preclinical research.
- You have passion for early drug discovery, along with the
following attributes
- A background in hematological disorders, with experience in
biologics and gene therapies
- An understanding of biological mechanisms that improve
thrombosis and hemostasis, and preclinical models for studying
these pathways
- Experience delivering novel therapeutics from idea to early
clinical development.
- Demonstrate the capability to inspire and motivate others and
build authentic relationships
- Demonstrate desire to participate in teams in a matrix
organizational structure
- Experience in completion of project deliverables
- An in-depth understanding of clinical needs as it relates to
guiding early programs towards successful translation to
therapeutics to bring meaningful benefit to patients
- Manage across multiple projects
- Lead matrix teams to meet project goals.
- Manage research vendors including negotiating sponsored
research agreements/contracts, analyzing scope of work,
facilitating the resolution of actions and issues.Effective
