Job Description:
MaineHealth Medical Group and Maine Medical Center are seeking a
full-time Medical Director of Dermatology to lead a
well-established, collegial dermatology program in Portland, Maine.
This integrated leadership role provides academic, clinical, and
administrative oversight for dermatology services across the health
system and supports MaineHealth’s tripartite mission of clinical
excellence, education, and research. This position will report to
the Senior Medical Director of Medical Specialties, with a dotted
line to the Chair of the Department of Medicine. The Division of
Dermatology provides comprehensive dermatologic care, including
general and complex medical dermatology, procedural dermatology,
dermatologic surgery, inpatient and consultative dermatology
services, and collaborative care with oncology, rheumatology,
primary care, and other specialties. Position Highlights This
leadership position offers: - Teaching and mentoring of medical
students, residents, and fellows, as applicable, through the Maine
Medical Center–Tufts University School of Medicine educational

Board certification in Dermatology - Demonstrated prior leadership
experience (division, section, program, or medical directorship) -

leadership skills Key Responsibilities 1. Academic Leadership The
Medical Director of Dermatology shall provide academic leadership
for the Division of Dermatology, including: - Collaboration with
Graduate Medical Education and Undergraduate Medical Education
leadership and Department Chairs to support all aspects of
dermatology education for medical students, residents, and fellows
- Oversight of dermatology teaching activities, including clinical
teaching, didactic curricula, simulation-based education,
electives, and medical grand rounds - Participation in initiatives
to support an optimal clinical learning environment, aligned with
Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
standards - Promotion of faculty engagement in MaineHealth’s
clinical, educational, and research missions, including
recruitment, development, mentorship, and academic advancement -
Collaboration with MaineHealth research leadership to support and
mentor clinical, translational, and health-services research
relevant to dermatology 2. Clinical Leadership The Medical Director
shall provide clinical leadership for dermatology services,
including: - Oversight and advancement of high-quality,
patient-centered dermatologic care across ambulatory and inpatient
settings - Leadership in the development and implementation of
innovative care models, clinical pathways, and quality-improvement
initiatives in dermatology - Collaboration with Department of
Medicine leadership, service lines, and operational partners to
develop and maintain clinical policies, practice guidelines, and
performance-improvement initiatives - Acceptance of accountability
for objectives aligned with MaineHealth’s Annual Implementation
Plan and service-line goals 3. Administrative and Operational
Leadership The Medical Director shall provide administrative
oversight for the Division of Dermatology, including: -
Participation in ongoing professional practice evaluation (OPPE)
and focused professional practice evaluation (FPPE) processes -
Leadership in faculty and advanced practice provider recruitment,
onboarding, engagement, development, and retention - Support for
division members’ participation in regional and national
professional societies, leadership development programs, and
academic promotion - Attendance and participation in meetings and
workgroups necessary to fulfill academic, clinical, and
administrative responsibilities - Performance review and periodic
reassessment of responsibilities in collaboration with the Chair,
Department of Medicine / Chief, Adult Medicine Service Line, and
