Surgical/Orthopedics - Certified Child Life Specialist
Option for 5, 8.5hr days or 4, 10.5hr days with a weekend rotation
(40 hours a week)
- Provides support, education, preparation, and normalization to
patients of various ages with surgical and orthopedic needs. Most
are short-term/quick admissions with some long-terms chronic
patients/families
- Shares unit coverage with additional full time CLS
- Part of larger inpatient surgical cohort (6)
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary team- child life
assistants, music therapists, art specialists, MDs, RNs, NPs, SW
psych, phlebotomists, etc
The Child Life Specialist will be responsible for supporting
patients and families in our Surgical/Orthopedics unit. We are
looking for an experienced CCLS to participate in therapeutic
activities to support patients and their families when facing
trauma/grief, complicated diagnosis and highly acute medical
situations. Working with a team of other Child Life Specialists,
together the team will responsible for facilitating coping,
preparation and education related to the hospital experience.
The Child Life Specialist will be responsible for:
- Participating in therapeutic activities and programs to meet
patients' psychosocial and developmental needs, and facilitating
adjustment to health care experiences for patients.
- Serving as member of multidisciplinary team.
- Delegating work assignments to volunteers and participating in
clinical training of student interns.To qualify, you must have:
- Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a
closely related field with a concentration in child life.
- 600-hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a
certified child life specialist.
- General skills to resolve problems requiring the use of child
development theory, professional child life principles, and
experienced based knowledge.
- Well-developed writing skills, and excellent communication
skills including conflict resolution to effectively work as a team
member.
- Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hireBoston
